In 1954 a young Japanese College graduate and Amateur Radio experimenter, Sako Hasegawa JA1MP, read an article with enthusiasm about Single Side Band (SSB) by Arthur Collins. After constructing several SSB generators for himself and friends, he was soon receiving requests from radio amateurs all over Japan for complete transmitters.
